The site has been created in honour the Senior Cetizens of Uttarakhand.
A group of senior citizines, retired citizines from various organisations, a few yet to retire from their services and like minded people formed the UTTRANCHAL SENIOR CITIZENS FORUM in the year 2000.
The excellent response received soon lead to its registration as "UTTARKHAND VARISHTH NAGRIK KALYAN SAMITI (REGD.)
The UVNKS is dedicated to the elevation of the Senior Citizens and focus their problems, raise their status in the society, and create a beautiful place for them.
The UVNKS since its inception has taken up the task of representing the concern of the elderly in the state of Uttarakhand. The mission of UVNKS is to enrich and empower the elderly in the state.
A large number of senior citizens of 60 years and above are today not a happy lot, because they are under the burden of their sons or other kin, physically, financially or psychologically.
They have lost the sense of independence, as they did not calculate the risk of being neglected by their kin in old age at the time when they have retired. They now look at the life as an empty glass full of depression.
Many have taken shelter in old age homes in different cities. Here they are provided with shelter, food, minor medical help and the common entertainment of newspaper or the television with an occasional musical or religious function.
A general survey carried out about their health etc showed that most of them were passing their days in loneliness, being discarded by their children and relatives.
It is daily observed that as long as the grand parents and the parents stand on their feet, every relative loves them in spite of their old age.
UVNKS, is educating the elderly and those nearing retirement to overcome the post retirement blues and feel a free and independent self, capable of looking after himself. By becoming member of the UVNKS the elderly can mix with others of their age group and common problems and thereby become a part of the ever growing movement.
They learn that today, in spite of their age they are still a part of the society, doing much more than what they did when they were young.
With this aim UVNKS IS VIRTUALLY ON THE BRINK OF BRINGING A CHANGE IN THE LIFE STYLE OF THE ELDERS OF UTTARAKHAND.
